Returning to Detroit, after his overwhelming success at the Maniscalco Gallery last November is Bulgarian artist Boyko Asparouhov. He travels from his residence in Prague, Czech Republic to be with us for the opening Soirée. For Boyko the creative act is like a colorful explosion onto the canvas. He impastes his paint onto the canvas in thick layers, using his fingers along with a brush. He is not interested in the outward aspects of our human existence. Boyko delves into the hidden universal mechanisms governing the psychology of chaos and the cosmos. The figures, or "visitors" in his works often express several personalities simultaneously. Boyko has
exhibited widely throughout Europe and is hailed as one of Eastern Europe's major voices of expressionism. His upcoming U.S. exhibit schedule includes one man shows in Chicago and New Orleans.
