Ambient Gallery Opens
in Grosse Pointe
by Robert Maniscalco
I am delighted to report that Kim and Steve Dabbs
are opening the Ambient
Gallery in Grosse Pointe. The Dabbs are looking
forward to introducing themselves to art lovers when
they open their new gallery for special events featuring
local artists in the community. Grosse Pointers can
once again look forward to enjoying a fabulous cultural
destination. Ambient will host a Grand Opening Reception
on Friday, July 29th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to
meet and greet their clients, guests, the media and
local artists. Ambient
Gallery will occupy the same space as the
former Maniscalco Fine Art Gallery, located in the
Garden District of Grosse Pointe (next to Meldrum
& Smith Nursery). In fact, the Dabbs will continue
to represent my portraits in their new Grosse Pointe
Gallery.
A professional artist and framer, Steve Dabbs is a
graduate of Kendall College of Art and Design. For
the last eight years he has created art in a dedicated
space in their home and is excited to finally fulfill
the dream he and Kim have worked so hard to achieve:
a gallery space to showcase the art of emerging and
seasoned local and international artists.
In the future, the couple plans to conduct more collaborative
group exhibits and workshops, partnering their resources
with artists and galleries in this area and beyond.
"We love Southeast Michigan because it's our
home and we want to make Ambient Gallery a major part
of the arts and cultural scene for artists, art lovers
and collectors in the Pointes," said Kim Dabbs.
"Ambient
Gallery gives us the freedom to show the work
of emerging artists and to give Grosse Pointers access
to the best and the brightest of today's artists."
said Kim. "We now have a place to showcase the
exceptional contemporary art that is being created
right in our own backyard."
Although this is their first effort in the gallery
business they are no strangers to the fine art world.
The Ambient
Gallery is the culmination of their commitment
and dedication to the arts. Throughout the past decade,
both Steve and Kim have worked to support arts and
culture in Michigan. Along with Kim's degree in Art
History, she has a Masters in Public Administration.
She has utilized that blend of art and business savvy
in her work with ArtServe Michigan as their Director
of Service Programs to artists and organizations.
She has served on the boards of several non-profit
arts and cultural organizations. Steve's commitment
to the creative process has lead him to develop into
an accomplished artist. He's worked with both arts
educators and students in Detroit and Battle Creek.
He is also an expert custom framer and designer; now's
the time to dust off those photos and heirlooms and
bring them in for a brand new treatment.
With qualifications like these we know they will
provide an indespensible cultural service to the Grosse
Pointe community. I urge you, dear reader, to stop
in and take advantage of this rare opportunity to
connect to and feed your creativity and imagination.
Once they are open the Ambient
Gallery hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
from Tuesday through Saturday and 11:00 - 4:00 on
Sundays. Monday hours are available by appointment.
