One of this country's finest
portrait artists, Robert Maniscalco's commissioned works are
part of over 750 distinguished private and public collections
throughout North America. Born in Detroit in 1959, he is the
son of internationally renowned portrait artist Joseph Maniscalco,
with whom he apprenticed during the early 1980's. He moved
to New York City in 1986 and returned home to Detroit in 1997
after a three year residency in New Orleans. In Detroit he
founded the Maniscalco Gallery, featuring many local artist
and hosted "Art
Beat" one of the highest rated local programs
on PBS. He has published DVDs
on painting portraits as well as a novel, entitled
"The Fishfly."
He currently resides in South Carolina where he and his wife
Amanda are raising their two
children, Danny and Mary.
He continues
to teach workshops
across the country and create commission
portraits for a discriminating clientele. Current
portrait projects include Robert Ficano, exec of Wayne County;
Rees Jones, designer of Oakland Hills Country Clubs' golf
course; Father Herman Miller, esteemed Professor at UofDMercy,
Judge Anna Diggs Taylor, US District Court; Jacob Bacall,
Bacall development (Farmington) as well as several family
portraits in and around metro Detroit, Atlanta, JacksonMS,
New Orleans and South Carolina.

Robert is also
an accomplished musician, actor, writer and teacher. A true
Renaissance man, he put himself through music and acting
school by painting portraits. Though his creative muse has
taken many forms he has discovered a common thread which
connects them all together. Robert speaks to the basic need
we all share to communicate aesthetically. He shares his
remarkable path toward personal growth and creative expression.
Robert has dedicated his life to uncovering what is true
and best in all of us.
As a
fine artist, Robert has created several bodies of
fine art, including "Faces of China," "Italia,"
a series of pastels on velour entitled "Chromo Sapien"
and recently he has been developing a series of paintings
depicting the low country in and around Charleston, SC The
Lowcountry series has been well received (sold well) and
is currently being exhibited by the Tidwell and the Richard
James Galleries in Charleston.
SCAN (South
Carolina Arts Newsgroup) picks up where DANG (Det.ArtsNewsGroup)
left off. SCAN reaches over 9,000 people who've expressed
an interest in learning more about Robert's work as an artist.
