Alien Among Us, 7.5 x 11.5 oil on panel, unframed
Alien Among Us is commentary on our society’s idea of beauty. There is something other worldly in the faces of super models that has been captured by science fiction animators to create those iconic superior aliens. You know the ones, with the big eyes. There is something impossible and unattainable in this young lady’s appearance. I have accentuated the clarity and intensity of color illuminating from her eyes. Her kind of beauty is as alien to me as the nearest star. And yet, her essence as a fellow human intrigues me. I am strangely drawn in. My apologies if I seem to be objectifying someone who has the same feelings and aspirations for happiness we all have. But perhaps that is part of my role as an artist, to use surface clues to understand the psyche, what lies beneath. I can only imagine what she might be thinking. As we stare at her, she gazes back into our eyes. Yes, it’s okay to stare. It’s a piece of art.
