Into the Glimmering Waters, 24″ x 24″ oil on panel
Into the Glimmering Waters explores how light frequencies play on the viewer’s retina. My goal is to get the viewer to squint his/her eyes in order to look into the painting. The general color palette is rather subtle, the full spectrum present only in the reflected light. A pair of Dolphin are chasing the light, the way we think of chasing rainbows, in hope of a reward. There is also a reclamation by nature going on in the shoreline, on which the viewer stands, an observer to the forces of nature in motion. The scene is about a quarter mile from my home on the Ashley River. I happened on it during a tranquil kayak ride with my brother, James, who was in for a visit. I took some liberties in building the picture, combining elements from several sources. Enjoy this visit from nature and relish in the abundance of light in the spiritual other-worldliness of Into the Glimmering Waters.
