oil on canvas 20″ x 24″ framed by the artist

Hallowed is a celebration of freedom from oppression. Not just the very real oppression of slavery, but the oppression of the mind, the self that holds us back from becoming who we were meant to be. Always hoping for freedom and believing it is out of reach, is itself a form of self-oppression. Part of my “Faces of the Lowcounrty” and “The Quench Project” series, Hallowed says, “freedom is available to me, right now, wherever I am, whatever my circumstances.”  This precious Gullah child is releasing the bounds of ideas that keep her in the state of oppression. She is a survivor, celebrating her God-given freedom to be. She is a child of God.
