Reflections and Contemplations 12″ x 14″ oil on canvas, framed by the artist
Reflections and Contemplations was inspired by the famous sculpture by Rodin. I grew up with a replica of “The Thinker, a fixture of bronze in front of the Detroit Institute of Arts. This is a study of how reflections are expressed on glass and metal. It is also a medication on the passage of time and thought and the meaning of being (“I think, therefore I am”). Still life is interesting because of what goes in and what goes out. The combination of items included can make us think. The rest is a delicious romp of color and the thrill of pushing paint.
