The Marshall

The Marshall 12″ x 14″ oil on canvas, framed by the artist

The Marshal was inspired by the work of Rembrandt. I used a glaze which brings out the luminosity of the skin tones. He emerges from the dark background. Brien Gregory, and a band of local Charleston actors, myself included, played the posse, chasing Denmark Vessey to the beach of Caper’s Island in the Documentary, Emanuel, which delved into Mother Emanuel Church shooting of 2016, which killed nine people. Brien played The Marshall. His commanding presence was terrifying.

This painting is the cover of my drawing and painting book, “The Power of Positive Painting.”
