The Power of Positive Painting™ instructional video (now on DVD) has been a real success story. (See below for more information on the original P3 video) Robert has received plenty of feedback over the years since he first published the Power of Positive Painting™ back in 1995, all of which he has taken to heart. Overwhelmingly, viewers appreciated his practical, concrete, informative and energetic approach to portraiture.
Great news! Robert has put all that great feedback, insight and subsequent teaching experience into the creation of the much anticipated follow-up DVD, called The Portrait; a value-based painting system.
The DVD, from Liliedahl Video Productions
, is even more comprehensive than the first, much more down to business. Robert’s focus is on breaking down the fundamentals for the viewer, the ones many teachers tend to gloss over or skip altogether. He also gets into the nuances of handling the brush and executing and recognizing the master-stroke when it happens. There’s a section on what to do when you get into a drawing jam. In the new DVD there is more explanation about the advantages of mixing and using the Power Palette. Other bonus features allow you to take in as much or as little information as you’re ready to hear, when you’re ready to hear it. For instance, Robert has packed everything he knows about a successful portrait career into the bonus feature, “Being a professional portrait artist today.” Beginner and advanced students have expressed that they have come away with renewed confidence and a practical, step-by-step approach for completing a portrait after viewing the new DVD.
This comprehensive DVD also includes several great bonus selections:
- Mixing the Power Palette
- Being a professional portrait artist today
- The three cube adventure
- Background and theories of the P3 method
I recently purchased your new portrait DVD from Liliedahl Fine Art. I really enjoyed your palette information and decided to try it on a painting I have just started. While I’ve been exposed to something similar, I think you have come up with an amazingly straightforward, logical and creative system of laying out a palette. I have studied with a number of national portrait artists who are excellent teachers, all of whom talk about value and laying out colors according to values, but this system amazed me. Once I took the time to lay out all the paint, I painted twice as fast, found workable color mixes I had never tried before, and came out with glowing color. I did add some favorite colors to the palette that you do not mention, but I thought this was a negligible difference, since I still laid them down according to the principles you set out in your dvd. This painting is much further along than I anticipated at this time and I am very happy with the result. So I must say thank you and express a rave review for your system — which I’m sure you’ve heard many times before, but I felt compelled to write! Please add me to your email list. Thank much

I just viewed your video “The Portrait A Value-Based Painting System”. I am so glad to own this video. I can’t say how surprised I am. It is just so insightful. I’m hoping to purchase more if they are offered – Angie Stewart
The DVD on the Power of Positive Painting is one of the best DVD’s I have ever seen. It taught me so much and I felt like I was actually a student in your class. I learned so very much and I don’t ever know how to thank you for all you taught me. To me it was a true gift. Someday when I get better. I hope to be able to afford to take your mentoring program. I know it would be the best thing I could ever do for myself. I could not fail with you in my corner. I just need some more time to learn more and reach the level I need to – Sylvia
